Two Problems, One Solution: Funded Site Remediation For Renewables

For many UK businesses, the ambition to adopt renewable energy runs into a significant physical barrier: the buildings themselves. An ageing roof, outdated electrical systems, or the presence of asbestos can make a solar PV installation seem like a non-starter, adding prohibitive costs and complexity to the project. This is where funded site remediation for renewables becomes essential. Funded site remediation for renewables is a critical step toward facilitating this transition.

This exact challenge was a central theme in our recent webinar with NFU Energy. While the conversation was focused on the agricultural sector, the core insight is universal: what if the infrastructure problem and the energy problem could be solved at the same time, with a single, elegant solution?

Incorporating funded site remediation for renewables can not only address existing infrastructure issues but also enhance the overall viability of renewable energy projects. By understanding the importance of site remediation, businesses can better strategise their energy transitions.

Funded site remediation for renewables ensures that the necessary adjustments and improvements are made, making it easier for businesses to harness renewable energy effectively. With funded site remediation for renewable energy, the process of upgrading infrastructure becomes seamless, ultimately leading to a more sustainable energy future.

At Saber Renewable Energy, this is precisely what our Blended Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is designed to do. It’s an approach that moves beyond simply funding a solar array to fund a complete site transformation, including funded site remediation for renewables.

Watch our two-minute summary video below to see how it works.

By leveraging funded site remediation for renewables, clients can transform their facilities into energy-efficient powerhouses, ready to adapt to modern energy demands.

As the video highlights, many buildings simply aren’t ready for a renewable energy system to be installed. A traditional PPA that only covers the solar panels leaves the client with the significant capital expense of getting their building “solar-ready.”

Our Blended PPA model fundamentally changes this dynamic. Under this structure, Saber Renewables funds the entire project scope with no upfront capital outlay from you. This includes:

  • Essential site remediation, such as roof replacements, repairs, or over-cladding.
  • Necessary electrical system upgrades to handle the new energy generation.
  • The design, supply, and installation of the renewable energy technologies themselves (e.g., solar PV, battery storage, or CHP).
  • All ongoing operations and maintenance for the life of the agreement.

While the video uses farms as a clear example, this model is engineered for any organisation facing similar challenges. We see identical hurdles across a vast range of sectors—from manufacturing plants and industrial warehouses to food processing facilities and data centres.

If you have an underutilised or ageing asset that is hindering your path to decarbonisation, Saber Renewable Energy Ltd can apply this exact Blended PPA model. We help you to modernise your infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and deploy renewable generation simultaneously.

The benefits extend far beyond immediate cost savings. By integrating site remediation with renewable energy, you are making a strategic investment in the future of your business. This approach allows you to:

Yes, this model is still perfectly viable for tenants. The arrangement for the Blended PPA typically involves a tri-party agreement between Saber (the provider), the tenant, and the building's landlord. This gives the landlord an upgraded asset at no cost and the tenant lower energy bills. Saber can assist with the landlord liaison and negotiation process to ensure a smooth agreement for all parties.

This is the core principle of our Funded Site Remediation for Renewables model. Saber Renewable Energy covers 100% of the upfront capital costs for both the site repairs and the renewable energy system. This integrated approach, which we call a Blended PPA, factors the project costs into the long-term energy rate you agree to pay. This rate is engineered to be lower than your grid electricity costs, ensuring you save money from day one without any capital outlay

Our Blended PPA is designed to be flexible. The scope of the funded site remediation can be tailored to your site's needs and can include essential works like full roof replacements, over-cladding existing structures, upgrades to outdated electrical systems, and even certain machinery or process upgrades.

Under our Blended PPA model, Saber Renewable Energy retains ownership and operational control of the assets throughout the agreement term. This means we are fully responsible for all ongoing operations, maintenance, and insurance. You get the benefits of the modernised infrastructure and cheaper energy without the risks and costs of asset management.

At the end of the Blended PPA term, which averages 15 years for our blended solutions, ownership of the renewable energy assets typically transfers to you, the client. From that point on, all the electricity generated by the system is yours to use for free, providing even greater long-term savings and energy independence.
