Wind

When does on-site wind beat more solar?

On-site wind generates power through the evening, the winter and the overnight hours, when a solar array produces nothing and a site is often still buying. Wind and solar are complements rather than rivals, because they produce at the times the other does not. A UK solar array peaks in the middle of a summer working day and produces almost nothing through a still, cold, dark January evening, which is often when a site is still drawing and the grid is dear. Small on-site turbines flatten that curve. Where a site runs overnight, has open ground or a good exposed ridge, and wants generation that holds up through winter, wind does work that extra solar cannot. Saber funds, builds and operates the turbines under the same contracted-rate agreement as every other technology in the blend.

Where this fits

One technology is rarely the answer on its own.

Saber sizes the blend to the site’s demand profile rather than to whichever technology is easiest to sell. These are the combinations this technology usually earns its place in.

Send us your half-hourly data and we will model it.

Twelve months of import data and a site pack is enough for an indicative blend, output range and unit rate, usually returned within one to two weeks and subject to feasibility.
